Real Steel Review and Giveaway

Releases on Blu-ray and DVD January 24, 2012
FILM SYNOPSIS:
Balancing gritty action and emotional heart, “Real Steel” is an inspiring and visually stunning film that takes audiences on an action-packed journey. Washed-up boxer Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) scrapes by as a small-time robot-fight promoter as he tries to make a comeback. Against all odds he eventually succeeds—at least in the eyes of his son Max (Dakota Goyo). “Real Steel” is spectacular family entertainment that will have everyone cheering again and again.

FILM REVIEW:
My husband and I watched "Real Steel" together.  We honestly didn't have high expectations for it because all we had heard was that it was the "Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots" movie.  Didn't give me much hope.  I was pleasently surprised.  I like how it introduces you to Charlie.  He's one of those rough around the edges guys with a great past that he can't live up to now.  Then they make you really not like Charlie through his poor parenting choices and greed.  Finally they redeem him and make him the hero you and his son Max want him to be in the end.  It's a classic hero story progression.  The kind we all love to watch.
The whole robot concept is really neat and quite fun.  It makes you want to go out and find some robots to fight.  I agree they're a little like the "Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots" with the coolest 21st century twists on them.  You end up loving them just as much as the human characters.  I think my favorite robot was Atom.  Not because he was cool but because he had more of a personality than the other robots.  He understood people but he was trapped.  I think we can all relate to that sometimes.  That's probably why I like him so much.  I think the coolest looking robots were Noisy Boy and Zeus.  They were flashy and shiny and look like the could destroy a military tank.  I would have liked to see them fight each other.
The funny thing about my not really wanting to see the movie because of the "Rock 'em, Sock 'em" vibe it originally gave off to me is my favorite robot fight.  It was the Noisy Boy fight.  That fight was the most "Rock 'em, Sock 'em" fight in the whole movie but it was still my favorite.  It was the first time you got to see what the robots really did.

If you haven't see the movie it's definitely worth taking the time to watch.  If you haven't really heard about it watch this preview.

I haven't seen the movie but the preview seems to have a bit of a "Rocky" feel to it - underdog takes all kind of thing. I am looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for the chance!

  9. I saw the previews only, and of course the most exciting part would be when the robots are confronting one another.
