My Goals for The New Year

We're 3 days into the new year.  I have set some goals for myself.  I usually set goals in my mind and almost never end up carrying them through.  I figure if I write them out then I might.

GOAL #1
This year, and really every year after, I want to make myself be a "Yes Mom".  You know the mom that says yes to every reasonable thing their children ask them to do.  I've become a "not right now" or "maybe later" mom.  I feel like sometimes I'm putting Madelynn on the back burner because of it.  I want to be an engaged parent rather than just a care taker.  Somehow I lost track along the way.  Madelynn and I used to play and have tea parties all the time.  Now Madelynn plays and I have to cook or clean or blog or change Hayleigh's diaper or one of the million other things I could come up with to do.  I'm going to make a point of stopping when I reasonably can to just play and spend time with her.

GOAL #2
Loose 100lbs in 1 year.  100 seems like alot.  But when you spread it over a year that ends up being only 2lbs a week.  I can totally do that.  It's way reasonable.  The way I'm going to do it is by cutting out soda.  I'm not going to ban soda though.  When I do that I set myself up for failure every time.  I can drink one occasionally like once a month.  Not 3-5 times a week.  I'm also going to stop eating fast food completely.  I don't eat it much now but I think cutting it out completely will help.
When I was pregnant with Madelynn I was put on the Gestational Diabetes diet.  It was a great diet.  It didn't cut anything out at all.  Just watched portions and carb intake.  I will be doing that again.  On that diet I was allowed 4 servings of carbs a meal.  That sounds like alot.  But did you know a serving of carbs is only 15 grams of carbs.  That's 1 slice of bread or 1 tortilla.  It's also 1/2 cup corn or carrots, 1/2 cup noodles, 1/2 cup ice cream, 1/2 cup yogurt.  Also more things have carbs in them than you think.
I will be drinking 3 1.5ltr jugs of water a day.  I don't know exactly how many ounces that is but it seems like a good amount for a nursing mother that's trying to loose weight.
For exercise I would like to take walks.  But since I have 2 small children and it's so cold during nap time I will run up and down the steps at my apartment.  I haven't decided how many times is a reasonable amount or how long.  I'll figure it out after the first time.
I would love to reach my goal of 100lbs before the end of the year but if it takes the whole year I know that's ok.

What are your goals for the year?  Have you made any?  Do you plan to make any?  Why or why not?

  1. DearOne, do not 'run' up and down the stairs. Save your knees and ankles by stepping surely. Good posture, stretches, walking, and especially marching/dancing with the Girls in time to music (the jungle book music on the video is good and the Girls will like it)can be included in your PreSchool P.E. exercises.
I remember marching/dancing with Aaron & Amy when they were small. He said "This makes my feet happy." I treasure those memories. jll

  2. My brother lost 120 lbs last year by using a Calorie Counting app on his phone. He never realized how many calories he was consuming until he started tracking it! This year, he's actually to the point where he can start exercising without hurting himself (he's still 422 lbs). Its hard but I know you can do it. Good luck!

  3. I googled water calculator and found several sites that will tell you how much water you should drink. I should drink 101 oz a day. That's 3.8 liters.
